Hi @likhit1
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re experiencing a few issues with your HP laptop:
- Battery at 0%: The laptop is not charging properly, and it turns off when you disconnect the charger.
- CMOS Reset (502): This is a message indicating that the BIOS settings have been reset, often due to a failure in the CMOS battery.
What Could Be the Cause?
The two main issues you're describing — battery at 0% and the CMOS Reset (502) message — could be related to hardware problems, specifically involving the main battery or the CMOS (RTC) battery. Let’s break down both:
1. Battery at 0% and Power-Off When Unplugged:
- Main Battery Issue: If the battery is showing 0% and your laptop powers off when unplugged, it’s possible that your main battery is either:
- Completely depleted or failed.
- Not charging properly due to a faulty battery or an issue with the charging circuit on the motherboard.
2. CMOS Reset (502):
- The CMOS Reset (502) error is related to the CMOS battery (also known as the RTC battery). This battery powers the motherboard’s real-time clock and keeps BIOS settings intact, even when the laptop is turned off. If this battery is dead or not working, the BIOS may reset to default settings, leading to the CMOS Reset error.
Possible Causes:
- Main Battery Failure: If your laptop’s main battery is dead or malfunctioning, it may not charge properly or hold a charge.
- Dead CMOS/RTC Battery: The error code suggests that the CMOS battery is failing or has been disconnected.
