i'm not sure if the battery is faulty or if i have a different problem but the bios views the error message saying that i'm using a counterfiet battery (it's the original battery i did not change it). the device does not run on battery, it works just fine when it's plugged in though. thank you for the help

Hi @maz714,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're facing with your OMEN Laptop - 15 may be caused by several factors, even though you're using the original battery. Here's a set of steps you can try to diagnose and resolve the issue.
Check Battery Connection:
- Ensure that the battery is securely connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can prevent the battery from being detected.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the laptop and unplug the AC adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual charge.
- Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, and power on the laptop.
Update BIOS:
- An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause battery detection issues.
- Visit HP’s support website to check for BIOS updates for your OMEN laptop and follow the instructions for updating the BIOS.
Run Battery Diagnostics:
- Restart the laptop and repeatedly press Esc or F2 to enter the Startup Menu.
- Select System Diagnostics > Component Tests > Battery and run the test. This may help identify whether the battery is indeed faulty.
Uninstall Battery Drivers:
- Open Device Manager and expand the Batteries section.
- Right-click and uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and any other related entries.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the battery drivers automatically.
Reset Battery in BIOS:
- Go into the BIOS and look for a setting related to battery health or reset.
- If available, try resetting the battery configuration in the BIOS.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure that your laptop's firmware is up to date, as sometimes firmware updates can resolve hardware recognition issues.
Battery Calibration:
- If your laptop has a battery calibration tool, use it to recalibrate the battery.
Replace the Battery:
- If none of the above steps work, the battery might actually be faulty even though it hasn't been replaced. You can try replacing it with an original or compatible HP battery to test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
