Hi @Ninetails21,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing thermal issues with your OMEN by HP gaming laptop after a recent BIOS update. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check for BIOS Updates: Sometimes BIOS updates can introduce new issues or conflicts. Check if there are any newer BIOS updates available for your laptop and consider rolling back to a previous version if possible.
- Clean the Laptop: Dust and debris can accumulate inside the laptop's cooling system over time, hindering its ability to dissipate heat effectively. Use compressed air to carefully clean out the vents and fans.
- Check Thermal Paste: The thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink may have degraded or been improperly applied. You may need to reapply thermal paste to ensure proper heat transfer between the CPU and the heatsink.
- Adjust Power Settings: Check your laptop's power settings and make sure it's not set to a mode that limits CPU performance to conserve power. You may want to set it to a performance or balanced mode.
- Use Cooling Pad: Using a cooling pad underneath your laptop can help improve airflow and reduce temperatures during gaming sessions.
- Undervolt the CPU: Undervolting the CPU can help reduce power consumption and heat generation without sacrificing performance. There are various software tools available for undervolting, but be cautious and make sure you understand the risks involved.
- Monitor Temperatures: Use monitoring software to keep an eye on your CPU temperatures while gaming or running demanding applications. This can help you identify if the issue persists and whether any of your troubleshooting steps are effective.
By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the overheating issue with your OMEN by HP gaming laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
