Hi @MAXPAYNE411 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing sudden FPS drops and poor gaming performance on a laptop like the HP Pavilion Gaming with Ryzen 5600H and GTX 1650 can be frustrating, especially after ensuring drivers are updated and settings are optimized.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially improve your gaming experience:

  • Check Temperatures: High temperatures can cause throttling, leading to performance drops. Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. If temperatures are too high (above 85-90°C), consider improving airflow or investing in a laptop cooling pad.
  • Power Settings: Ensure your laptop is set to high-performance mode in the power settings. Sometimes laptops may throttle performance to conserve battery life.
  • Background Applications: Close any unnecessary background applications that may be consuming system resources. Antivirus scans, software updates, and other processes running in the background can impact gaming performance.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel Settings: In the NVIDIA Control Panel, make sure the preferred graphics processor is set to the NVIDIA GPU and adjust settings for maximum performance. You can also try setting the Power Management Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance."
  • Windows Game Mode: Check if Windows Game Mode is enabled. Sometimes it can interfere with game performance. You can toggle it off in Windows settings.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop. Sometimes BIOS updates can improve system stability and performance.
  • Game Settings: Lowering in-game graphics settings can help improve performance. Additionally, ensure that any FPS caps or VSync options are disabled.
  • Driver Reinstallation: While you mentioned drivers are updated, sometimes a clean reinstall of GPU drivers can resolve issues. Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely uninstall GPU drivers and then reinstall the latest drivers from NVIDIA's website.
  • Check for Background Processes: Sometimes, background processes such as Windows updates or antivirus scans can impact gaming performance. Make sure no such processes are running in the background while gaming.
  • Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there could be a hardware problem with the laptop.
