I am a potential user of HP mobile workstations and RGS software. I need to get answers to some questions before making the purchase. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

  1. I am located in Chinese Mainland, and the mobile workstations sold in your official online store are the ZHAN 99 series. Could you please confirm if the RGS Sender can run effectively on the ZHAN 99 series models?
  2. For this specific mobile workstation model I plan to purchase (https://www.hpstore.cn/hp-zbook-x-g2i-16-inch-mobile-workstation-pc-dg5p3pc.html?facetref=e8df496690...), does it qualify for the promotional offer that includes a complimentary 1-year RGS license?
  3. If the Sender and Receiver are not on the same local area network (LAN), can they still connect and use the RGS functions normally?
  4. Can a MacBook run the RGS Receiver effectively, and establish a normal connection with the HP workstation installed with the RGS Sender?
  5. Does RGS support the functions of remote power-on and remote shutdown?
  6. If I only have one RGS Sender license, can I install it on two different machines (as long as they are not used for connection at the same time)?
  7. Can the RGS Sender run effectively on workstations of brands other than HP? Will RGS carry out dedicated optimizations for HP models to create functional differences?

Hello,

Responding to your questions inline, copied here below.

  1. I am located in Chinese Mainland, and the mobile workstations sold in your official online store are the ZHAN 99 series. Could you please confirm if the RGS Sender can run effectively on the ZHAN 99 series models?    Kelly:  I looked at the spec for the HP ZHAN 99 Pro Tower.  As a sender it should work with the integrated graphics but AMD graphic we are working on support for headless senders.  RGS looks to NVIDIA for resolution and layout matching, especially when headless.  If you have displays attached to the HP ZHAN 99, then it should work with AMD graphics.  I can see about having someone test this in HP China or see if anyone in the US has one of these for me to test with.
KellyZBooks do qualify for the 1 YR free license since they are a mobile workstation.
  3. If the Sender and Receiver are not on the same local area network (LAN), can they still connect and use the RGS functions normally?  KellyThe sender and receiver need to see each other to communicate.  If you are connecting lets say from home to your sender in the office, you would need to use a VPN or some other means to have them on the same network.  I have done port forwarding to have people connect to systems here at my home office, just needs to be a public IP address.  You can always try RGS for 30-Days to make sure you can get connectivity.  Here is the link to the 30 Day Trial.  https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/019d42e8715371a788d66f82478a549b  Just fill out the form and you will receive an email with the registration code.  You will need to setup a cloud or local license server so the sender can check out a license.  The User Guide covers how to do both types of license servers.  I have attached the latest user guide, see the Getting Started Section.
  4. Can a MacBook run the RGS Receiver effectively, and establish a normal connection with the HP workstation installed with the RGS Sender? KellyYes, we have a lot of Mac Receiver users.  If you need help with adding multi-display functionality, it is in the user guide, but feel free to reach out here.  Again you can test with the 30-Day trial.  Always happy to help with Proof of Concept.  I do know that the new Mac OS (Golden Gate) will only support Macs with ARM processors, and will not work on Macs with Intel processors.  We are up to Tahoe for supported Mac OS.
  5. Does RGS support the functions of remote power-on and remote shutdown?  KellyNo RGS itself does not do that, but you can use the HP Remote System Controllers to do that and they work with RGS. https://www.hp.com/us-en/solutions/remote-system-controller.html
  6. If I only have one RGS Sender license, can I install it on two different machines (as long as they are not used for connection at the same time)?  KellyRGS licenses are distributed from a license server and are on a concurrent basis.  So if you only have one license, and it is in use, a second sender cannot check it out until the first sender ends its session and checks the license back into the license server.
  7. Can the RGS Sender run effectively on workstations of brands other than HP? Will RGS carry out dedicated optimizations for HP models to create functional differences?  KellyRGS will work on other manufacturers hardware.  The only thing RGS cannot work with is a Mac as a sender.  There is a spec for sender and receiver as far as preferred requirements.  In the user guide under HP RGS Overview, you wlil see a Note that has a link to the QuickSpecs which gives you detals on hardware requirements for best experience.  It also covers what is necessary for deployment of RGS.

Hope I have answered your questions, but please let me know if I haven't.  Here is link to official RGS website where you can download the latest release V26.08.0.10000 and documentation.  https://www.hp.com/us-en/workstations/software-solutions-workstation-pc/z-remote-graphics-software.h...

I will be updating the forum tomorrow about this new release.
