Dear Support Team,
I am experiencing a display issue while using HP Z Central with my home setup. Here are the details of the situation:
- My laptop has a built-in 17-inch screen.
- I’ve connected an external 27-inch monitor, which has the same resolution and aspect ratio as the monitor I use at my office.
- Despite correct configuration of resolution, scaling, and extended mode, windows displayed on the second monitor always show vertical and horizontal scroll bars, as if they are not fully fitting the screen.
I have already checked the following:
- The external monitor is set to its native resolution (27 inches).
- The scaling is consistent across both screens.
- The display mode is set to "Extend these displays."
- I have restarted HP Z Central and my laptop.
Could you please help me identify and resolve the issue? Is it possibly related to a setting in HP Z Central or the remote desktop environment?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best

Hi @robbb3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
The issue you’re experiencing with HP Z Central on your external monitor could indeed stem from remote desktop settings or the way the application interacts with multiple displays. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide:
1. Check HP Z Central Remote Boost Display Settings
- Open the HP Z Central Remote Boost Receiver settings.
- Look for any options related to resolution or scaling.
- Ensure that the "Match host display" or "Use full resolution" setting is enabled.
- If you find an option for "Allow full-screen on all displays", ensure it is checked.
2. Adjust Remote Desktop Settings
- If using Windows Remote Desktop:
- Disconnect the remote session.
- Open Remote Desktop Connection and click Show Options.
- Navigate to the Display tab and ensure the resolution matches your external monitor’s native resolution.
- Under the Experience tab, check Enable desktop composition and Font smoothing.
3. Verify Extended Display Settings
- Open Display Settings in Windows (right-click on the desktop > Display settings).
- Ensure the external monitor is set as the main display (if most work is done there).
- Verify the external monitor is detected as a separate screen and not duplicated.
- Set scaling to 100% for both monitors, or adjust to ensure consistent app behavior.
4. Check Host Machine Resolution
- On the remote workstation, ensure that its resolution settings are optimized for the larger screen.
- Ask IT to confirm that the remote system’s resolution is configured for dual-monitor setups.
5. Update Software and Drivers
- Ensure both the HP Z Central Remote Boost Receiver and the Sender are updated to their latest versions.
- Update the graphics drivers for your laptop and monitor.
6. Test Alternative Configurations
- Single Monitor: Temporarily disconnect the laptop display and test only the external monitor to identify if scaling adjusts correctly.
- Custom Resolution: Try a slightly lower resolution to see if the scroll bars disappear, which may indicate a scaling issue.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hello again,
I need to know more info regarding your setup. My elevation template helps myself and 2nd Level support assist you.
Here are the details of the situation:
- My laptop has a built-in 17-inch screen. (What is the native resolution?)
- I’ve connected an external 27-inch monitor, which has the same resolution and aspect ratio as the monitor I use at my office. (What is the native resolution?)
- Despite correct configuration of resolution, scaling, and extended mode, windows displayed on the second monitor always show vertical and horizontal scroll bars, as if they are not fully fitting the screen. (What orientation is your external display? Are you going through a dock, if so, which one?)
- Are the details about for your receiver only? If yes, I need to know your sender (system you are remoting into) setup.
I have already checked the following:
- The external monitor is set to its native resolution (27 inches).
- The scaling is consistent across both screens.
- The display mode is set to "Extend these displays."
- I have restarted HP Z Central and my laptop. (What version of Remote Boost is installed on your sender and receiver?)
