HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Printer

I received the following message:

Missing or Failed Printhead

The print head appears to be missing, not deleted, incorrectly installed or incompatible.

I ordered the printheads thru HP and installed them about 3 -4 months ago and printer worked fine until today.  I don't understand what is causing this problem.

Please let me know what I should do to correct this problem.

Thank you.

Lori

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the printhead error message on your Officejet Pro 8600 series printer.

I tried your suggestions and it didn't help my printer.

should I buy new printer cartrideges and replace all of them on my printer?  Will that take care of the problem?

Thank you,

Lori

In your first post you mentioned that you had replaced the printheads with parts from HP.  Was it the ink cartridges (HP 950 black and 951 color) you replaced?  The printhead in the Officejet Pro 8600 is a separate part that includes the holder for the ink cartridges.

Replacing the ink cartridges will not likely fix a printhead error message.

The printhead can be ordered separately for replacement, but it is an expensive part.  I would suggest running through the first eight troubleshooting steps once more from the beginning.  If this does not resolve the issue you could purchase a new printhead ($120 US) as described in step nine.  It may make more sense to purchase a new printer. I was in Costco yesterday and they had the Officejet Pro 8715 (like the 8710, and comparable features to the 8600 Plus) for less than the cost of a replacement printhead.
