HP Officejet Pro 8600 tray
I had the same problem as everyone in other similars discussions - the flap on the paper output tray of our Officejet Pro 8600 had broken. It is a very poor design, never strong enough to support continued use, particularly as -
a) it is very tight fitting and does not slide in and out smoothly;  and
b)  every time you need to refresh the paper supply in the paper tray, or access the paper tray for whatever reason, you have to slide this part in and out.

Anyway ... I also couldnt get the part out without risking breaking it and so I decided to fix it as best as I could. I drilled 4 very small horizontal holes into the extending tray. I then glued in 2 small hooks that i had bent to hold the female slots on the swivel flap in place. You drill the hook holes first and then once you work out where the "stopper" nails have to go you can drill the other 2 holes. I then added two small nails to stop the swivel flap sliding off sideways. I did this fix about 8 months ago and it works perfectly and I can still slide the tray in and out without any problem.

It's a great ... very ecconomical ... printer, we use it a lot (for a small business) and I was determined to get it 100% again.

See the photos .... I hope this helps someone.
