I purchased this printer new and about 2 years of very light use, I got this error. I was able to continue to use the printer by following the directions to keep in diagnostics mode but as time went on the quality of the print has gotten worse--it is leaving magenta lines at the bottom of the pages. I would like to get this error fixed and I am hoping the Magenta might need a new cartridge or else maybe it needs a new belt unit as show below it seems to have lots of Magenta on the belt. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

First off you did not get this printer new 2 years ago. This printer was discontinued in 2009. That said it looks like you have an issue with your magenta toner cartridge and it probably needs to be replaced. If memory serves me it is the waste hopper of the magneta that is used to store the residual toner after the printing process has finished. I do not think you need a belt. As to the memory supply error, I do not know if you are using hp oem or aftermarket toners but most times the issue is the memory chip on the toner has issues and the printer's reader can not read it. I believe but I could be wrong that the last toner bar reporting the error refers to the cyan toner since that is the bottom toner in the printer. To confirm just run a supplies status page and it will tell you which toner it can not get information on.
