Hi there,
I have a HP Laserjet 2420 Printer and it comes up with 49.FF05 Service Error.
Now I can access some menu items via hold down the arrow key and doing a cold reset etc, now with that not working it also throws out the message "Printing Job Inprogress". I have tried canceling that within the printers menu, and the printer will not install on my PC even with drivers installed so that I cant use the printer with my PC and try to fix the issue :(.
So the printer has a print job pending I dont know, also I have tried swapping the DIMM into another slot and back again but no luck.
Does anyone know how to fix this Error without using a PC.
Regards

It could be anything from a blown formatter to just a corrupt print job.
Test: Disconnect the network cable and do a cold reset. If it comes up to ready, it was probably just a bad print job. Delete everything in the print queues and reboot the PCs. It should work OK.
But: If it still gives a 49 error with no cable and a cold reset, you may have issues that may cost more to fix than the unit is worth (depending on how much you local repair company charges). You can always buy a formatter on eBay and try installing it yourself.
Work around: Go to Printers delete the printer. If you can find out what IP address the printer was using, program the printer manually and use another IP address. Don't reuse that one. Reinstall the printer.
Chances are that someone was trying to print a web based document. Online PDFs are the #1 culprit. #2 are weather reports. #3 is the etc, etc, etc because anything printed from an online source can cause it.
Do a firmware update on the printer. This will help 90% of these issues. Next, advise those needing to print network or web based documents to save them to their hard drive first, close the online document, open the saved document and print from there.

Thank you GaryL1,
I tried all that you suggested, it didn't work 😞 so I called several local printer repair company's and they were charging like you said way to much than the printer was worth.
Sadly old faithful has to go to the recycling center.
Thank you for your help and fast response.

Too bad. Except for a bad batch of drive gears in a few of them when they were released, the 2400 was a pretty good series.
The market has changed so when you go to buy now, don't get caught in the "cheap printer trap". The cheaper the printer, the more they cost to print.
If you can justify the expense, get the HP 605. The 604 sounds like a great deal because it's only a few pages per minute slower, but it also can only use the low yield toner cartridges and your cost per page goes up a lot. A penny doesn't sound like much, but this thing will last a couple hundred thousand between maintenance visits.
If you are looking at a used printer, stay away from the 3005 and 3015 units. Lots of those on the market and they are cheap. They are cheap because no one wants them now that the newer machines are out. They were troublesome when they were new. Now they are just a headache. Also, NEVER buy a used color printer.
Look at the cost per page and include maintenance, not just toner. Also, not the zillion pages-per-minute thing, either. Besides, that the whole Page Per Minute thing is bogus. The average office document is something like 1.8 pages. Who really care how fast it can print 50 pages?
Good luck with it!

The formatter on this printer is very very easy to replace. They cost very little on ebay and I would just order 1, do a google search for the service manual and replace it myself. Below is a link to one for your printer without network connection. Since you will be buying a used one you can not put a network formatter in a printer that originally did not have a network connection. If your formatter has the N designation then it has a network connection and you will need to get the network version of the formatter. Again cheap and just do a ebay search.
