49 Service Error on printer touch screen. Will not print from a Microsoft Office document.

Have followed instructions (per HP support) to shut down printer, unplug USB, and unplug electric power from surge supressor, and then plug electrical power into wall socket. Then reconnect USB. Have done all of this, restarted printer  and printed an internal printer document (Help Menu and Configuration Report) both of which printed fine.

But, printer will not print a Microsoft document. 49 Service error appears. I use Microsoft Office v.X student/teacher edition for Mac (2011).  This was most recently updated, May 10, 2016 with office update 14.6.4. I printed some documents after this update, but now this 49 Service Error keeps appearing.

Product Number for this Laserjet Pro400 M401dn printer is:  CF278A

Any help would be appreciated.

If you disconnect the printer from the computer or network and turn it on does it come to ready.  If it does, then the print job which is still trying to print or a new print job is causing the error.  Remove all print jobs from any computer which uses the printer.  First upgrade the firmware using the easy firmware update program.  Then try the same job and see if works.
