After recent Mac upgrade, I received the alerts about Mac OS issue ("HPxyz.framework" will damage your computer). Assuming it was because drivers might have been out of date, I upgraded. Immediately after my printer now throws up 52 Scanner Error and says to restart, but after many restarts, it will not correct itself.

Today I removed and reinstalled the drivers but to no avail. Help!

Thanks!

I never guess at people's willingness to dig into things. For average consumer this type of error is probably not something they are going to tackle. That said, I would try the following before giving up hope and forgive me if I suggested this already.

Unplug the printer, leave unplugged and press and hold the power switch for ten seconds, release the power switch, plug the printer back in, making sure you are plugging directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector and then power on. If the error is still there you have probably have a bad scanner.

This is likely coincidence not causal. The 52 error is a failed scanner in the print engine. Make sure you are plugged directly into the wall and not into a surge protector.

Thanks for weighing in. I appreciate it.

Do you know if it is possible to disable the scanner so that the printer will work? Any other ideas?

It might be coincidence but, it the circumstances do make it questionable.

Thanks!

This error is the scanner that writes the image to the drum units to print not the scanner used to make copies or scan documents, so no the unit is unusable as a printer until the error is resolved. Be sure you have it plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a power bar of any sort. You can try unplugging it and after leaving it sit, hold down the power button for ten seconds with it still unplugged to drain any residual charge from the circuitry. Then reconnect the power and see if it will start up normally.

Last question @Repairatrooper

So am I to take it that this is likely an issue that I cannot (as an ordinary consumer) fix? While the printer was working perfectly and I have been very happy with it, it is a bit older now. Now that I understand the error more (thank you!) and looked at more support pages, it seems like a HW issue that would require HP or similar help?

Thanks for all of your comments. Much appreciated!
