Hi,

My LaserJet kept showing the 79 Service Error Turn on Then Off message. I've download the support page for the problem, tried updating the firmware, disconnect the printer from wifi, turning it on and off etc but to no avail. Printer would print if I was running Configuration reports etc.

Help please!

Thank you!

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

79 Error typically indicates that the product has experienced a firmware error. Removing the toner cartridge and performing a power reset may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of the toner ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord and all other cables  from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Wait for at least 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the toner cartridges.

6) Download and update the printer firmware from here.

Let me know how it goes!

I did all the things you listed (unplug, remove cartridges, wait 30s, plug back, update firmware) to resolve the 79 service error code and tried printing again and got the sam 79 error again.

@singinkuz, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To provide you with an accurate solution, I would need a few details:

  • Which printer are you using?
  • What is the Operating System installed on your computer?
  • How is the printer connected to your computer?

Keep me posted for further assistance.
