Apparently I've lost the ADMIN password for my Color Laserjet M252DW.  I've cycled through all my known passwords and no joy.  I understand that there is a key sequence that will reset to factory defaults so that I can either reestablish a new password, or turn it of entirely.  Help Please!

Try the below:

An NVRAM initialization erases all data stored in the unprotected NVRAM sections. Performing an NVRAM initialization resets the following settings and information:●All menu settings are reset to factory default values.●All localization settings, including language and country/region, are reset. After performing an NVRAM initialization, reconfigure any computers that print to this printer so that the computers can recognize the printer.

1.Turn the printer off.

2.2-line control panels: Press and hold the right-arrow button and the Cancel button simultaneously. Keep the buttons depressed as you turn the printer on.

Touchscreen control panels: Turn the printer on, and then, as soon as the HP logo appears, press the lower right quadrant of the control panel.

3.When the Permanent Storage Init. message appears on the display, release the buttons (2-line control panels) or touchscreen. The NVRAM initialization starts.

4.When the printer has finished the NVRAM initialization, it returns to the Ready state.

Hello @JohnexHP

You may need to do a reset to the unit (print a configuration report so you can get the IP address and other information you will need to get the printer up and running again )

1. Power down the printer

2. Press and hold the lower left hand corner of the screen

  a. This is normally where the progress bar starts loading on the screen

3. Power on the printer

4. Release the left hand corner once the "Permanent Storage Init" message appears.

Alternative NVRAM/Cold Reset:

1. Power down the printer

2. Press and hold the right arrow button on the navigational bar

  a. This button will flash for a moment when the printer boots up

3. Power on the printer

4. Release the left hand corner once the "Permanent Storage Init" message appears.

@Reskape,

Thank you for the quick reply and suggestion.  The first suggestion, press/hold lower left corner, didn't do anything other than go through the standard initialization routine.  Still required a password to access any administrative functions.

The second, right arrow button, I tried the return button, and no joy.  The screen shows a return, home and ? button, but no other navigational aids.

None of the attempts returned the "Permanent Storage Init".

Again, thanks for those suggestions, anything else you can think of?

THANK YOU, the missing information, and something I didn't know, is that there are two interfaces - touch screen (which I have) and (I assume) a multiline LCD with physical buttons.  The touch screen instructions were exactly what I needed, and did the trick.  Thanks very much, I have now regained control of my printer.  Now to reassume control of the household... - unfortunately will probably take more than a couple of button pushes.

Thank you @davidzuts!
