I’m trying to set up my HP Laser Jet M139we and it can find my wifi and the Attention light is blinking under the wifi light blinking.  Not sure what to do?

Hi @Billjean

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing what’s happening—I’m really sorry the setup isn’t going smoothly. That blinking Attention light under the Wi-Fi indicator usually means the printer is trying to connect but something’s holding it back.

Since it can see your Wi-Fi network, we’re already halfway there. Let’s guide it the rest of the way.

Step-by-Step Setup for HP LaserJet M139we

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This clears any previous connection attempts and puts the printer into setup mode.

  • Turn on the printer and wait until it’s idle.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button on the back of the printer for 10 seconds until the Attention and Wireless lights start blinking together.
  • This resets the network and enables setup mode.

2. Use the HP App to Connect

Now we’ll use the HP App to complete the setup.

  • Open the HP App on your phone or Windows PC.
  • Tap “Add Printer” or “Set Up a New Printer.”
  • The app should detect your printer as HP LaserJet M139we (Setup).
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
  • Follow the prompts to finish setup.

Make sure your phone or PC is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.

3. Check Router Settings (If Setup Fails)

If the Attention light keeps blinking:

  • Ensure your router is set to 2.4 GHz (this printer doesn’t support 5 GHz).
  • Disable MAC address filtering or access control temporarily.
  • Restart your router and try setup again.

4. Print a Network Configuration Page

This helps confirm what the printer sees.

  • Press the Information button (i) on the printer.
  • Look for:
    • SSID: Should match your Wi-Fi name.
    • IP Address: If blank or 0.0.0.0, it’s not connected yet.

5. Optional: Use WPS Push Button Method

If your router supports WPS:

  • Press the WPS button on your router.
  • Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wireless button on the printer until the light blinks.
  • Wait for the connection to complete.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. I’ll be right here to help you get that satisfying moment when the lights stop blinking and your first page prints.
