I’ve done the following trying to resolve this issue, from information obtained from various websites and forums regarding this issue:

  1. Check and adjusted Power Settings via the control panel and the Embedded Web Server. Energy settings are set as follows: Sleep is set for 1 minute. Inactivity Shutdown is set for 20 minutes. Auto Shutdown is On. Prevent shutdown when ports are active is not checked.
  2. Updated the Printer's Firmware to Version #6.17.5.40-202503181735 dated Julu 28, 2025.  The printer came with Version #6.17.3.269-202405221647.
  3. Performed a Factory Reset.
  4. Performed a Power Reset
  5. Power cord is plugged directly into wall outlet.

Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

@SSEliot1, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP MFP4301fdw.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If the Auto Shutdown and Sleep mode features are not working on your HP MFP4301fdw printer, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Check Power Management Settings:

    • Ensure that your printer settings for Sleep and Auto Shutdown are configured correctly.
    • Navigate to the printer's control panel, access the Menu, then go to Utilities and touch Settings. Check under the Energy section to verify the settings for Sleep and Auto Shutdown.
  2. Access Embedded Web Server (EWS):

    • Open the Embedded Web Server for your printer by entering its IP address in a web browser.
    • Under the Settings tab, look for Power Management or Energy Savings options. Adjust the Energy Save Mode settings as required.
  3. Verify Connection Options:

    • If your printer is connected via network, make sure that its network settings do not interfere with the power management features.
    • Auto Shutdown might be disabled when the printer’s wireless or Wi-Fi Direct capability is enabled.
  4. Test Different Configurations:

    • Try changing the timer settings for Sleep and Auto Shutdown. Set a different period of inactivity to see if the printer responds appropriately.
    • If possible, reset the printer to its factory defaults to rule out any incorrect settings that might have been configured previously.
  5. Firmware Update:

    • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Updating the firmware might resolve issues related to power management features.
  6. Check for Errors:

    • Ensure there are no error messages or print jobs in the queue that might prevent the printer from entering Sleep or Auto Shutdown mode.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi Meghana_10:

Thank you for your reply.

As stated in my original case #[edited] I've performed the following troubleshooting steps, which is basically the same troubleshooting steps that you included in your reply.  I've performed each of these steps various times with no success.  Printer is hooked up by USB Port only.  Printer has no problems accepting Print commands.

Energy settings have been set to different settings various times with no change.
  2. Updated the Printer's Firmware to Version #6.17.5.40-202503181735 dated July 28, 2025. The printer came with Version #6.17.3.269-202405221647.
  3. Performed a Factory Reset.
  4. Performed a Power Reset
  5. Power cord is plugged directly into wall outlet.

I’ve tried each of these steps various times with no success. Printer is under warranty.

Since the printer came with a one year On-site warranty, would it be possible to send one of your technicians to our location to continue troubleshooting and if problem cannot be resolved, we would like the printer replaced with a new printer.

Thank you for your assistance and Happy Holidays!
