I have the MFP M477 fmw and am trying to get the auto paper select thing to work too. Same deal Legal then letter then 47 pages then a letter stuff. Did you ever get this figured out?

How many trays do you have and are you configuring the trays properly. You must ensure that on the printer you set the tray paper type and size to match what you actually have loaded. Using the Any size Any type option will result in frustrating  paper output that does not match what you are expecting. Set one tray to letter and another tray to legal.
