CANNOT select paper SOURCE in application page SIZE setup for HP MFP M428fdw

Printer has 1 tray and 1 manual feed tray.  I want my software to select SOURCE of tray to print from in page setup and to set as manual feed so I can put envelope in MF tray.  Cannot change paper in page size from printing application.

This seems to be a common problem with HPs but I can not find a good solution.  Please do not respond with pressing the button on the printer every time to select paper size.  That is, or should be, archaic.  I wish I still had a functioning Laser Jet 4Plus...

If you select manual feed but do not have paper size set on the printer to match your request, it will always prompt. Paper size should be envelope and type is envelope.

I had checked the page settings multiple times in the process.  I had similar problem with single-tray printer due to out-of-paper error, I think, and sent it back.  This fiasco resulted in part, I believe, from the app I use (WP17) or the HP printer Env relying on bookmarks in the Env sized page for return and address begin and end.  I have sizes that work without bookmarks now. 

One thing I found is that there a two separate places in the printer settings where you have to change default tray settings.  After looking just now, I don't find both.  Maybe one is in HP settings and the other in the app.

I had at least FIVE HP support and sales folks tell me that it was IMPOSSIBLE to do on this model printer without having to physically select paper size on the printer and wait for it to catch up.  Now it is working with manual feed tray set to ANY SIZE and I DO NOT HAVE TO TOUCH printer menu.  When it STOPS for manual feed, ALL I have to do is INSERT Env (& adjust paper guide).
