When I attempt to print over WiFi or by USB from my MacBook Pro running macOS 10.15.3 Catalina, to my HP CP1025nw colour laser, the print jobs fail with a "Stopped - 'Filter' failed, 1 page" error in the Printer Queue dialog, If I go into settings, and open the printer utility, it shows the device status as offline with the message 'Device is offline and cannot process print jobs'. I can open the printers web page and a check on toner levels works so the Mac is clearly able to communicate with the printer.
I have never had a problem before and it appears to be just a problem with the Mac. The printer is still behaving perfectly and prints fine over WiFi for Windows 10 laptops and Android devices. So it is clearly not offline.
I have deleted the printer from the Mac. Reset the printing system and added back the printer to no avail. I can switch to printing via AirPrint and this does work but the print quality is pants. Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Hi @vincew62
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.
- Which application are you trying to print from?
- Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word or Webpages and check if the error persists?
The drivers for HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer is not available on the HP Support site. However, this printer is AirPrint compatible and hence has to be installed using the AirPrint driver.
Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print and check for the error.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi KUMAR0307
Thanks for your help. I already know that AirPrint works, and yes I have updated the printer firmware.
It is not the application I am using or the type of document that is the problem. I can print the exact same documents from the same applications on a PC and get perfect print quality. I used to be able to get that same quality from my Mac a couple of versions of the MacOS ago. Now the only option that works is to use AirPrint, but the print quality is truly awful. The colours are washed out and the text is nowhere near as sharp. I'm having to get a PC out every time I want to print anything to a decent standard.
Ideally I would like a work around. Is there a way of getting an older version of the Mac driver to work with the latest MacOS, or will HP update the driver, or has anyone found a way of getting the Mac to print via IP, etc. rather than AirPrint ?
Thanks

The only option available to make this printer work without the error is by using the AirPrint driver as I mentioned in my previous post.
If you are trying to print from a PDF and getting the error, try these steps –
b.) Try printing from preview app - Print PDFs and images in Preview on Mac
If you are trying specifically from Adobe software, try updating the Adobe software.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
