Trying to help out my parents, who have a CP2025. It has worked without issues for many years. All four printer cartridges have recently been replaced (with genuine HP 304A cartridges). Initially, no problems. But now, whenever they try to print a document, only the first page is printed and then the printer display shows "Cleaning...". On one occasion, it also did calibration. But the cleaning doesn't seem to stop.

First time I tested their printer, there was a gap between the first page printing and the "Cleaning..." occurring, when it sounds like the printer was trying to pick up the next sheet of paper, but I may be wrong. After turning the printer off for a while and repeating, the printer went straight from first page being printed to "Cleaning..."

Does the pickup roller need replacing? Sticky solenoid? Something else? Any advice would be very helpful!

This is a fairly old machine and the foam noise bumpers on the solenoids break down over time and become sticky. This causes mis-timing issues as the solenoid stays open for more than 1 revolution of the drive. This causes the printer to think that it has printed onto the transfer belt directly and not on paper and then triggers a cleaning cycle. Pretty common error on older machines. Check YouTube as there will likely be a video there on how to locate, remove and clean the solenoids.
