OfficeJet 8500 A909
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It has happened before the Checking Device screen and took about an hour or so to complete. This time I just printed of some stuff for school and it popped up again. I have not done anything or changed any settings. Other than normal use. It has been on this screen for a day and a half now. I have tried unplugging it to reset the whole thing and it is still on the Checking device screen. I have not performed a software update due to no USB cord at the moment. I'm not sure that is the problem though. If anyone has any idea's please let me know. I am a full time student and can't afford another one at the moment and I really need it for school! Please Help!

Hey there! @NewMe_SameYou91,

Try the steps recommended below.

Turn on the printer.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
   NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the rear of the printer.
Try to print.

Also, try updating the printer firmware to the latest version and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know more information about updating the printer firmware. Click Here

Lastly, Reset the printer network settings to default and check if it helps:

Select Setup, select Network, and then select Restore Network Defaults

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, try performing a semi full reset on the PC and check if it helps.

As the steps to perform a semi full reset is confidential and dedicated to your printer.

I will share you the steps through a private message. Please watch your inbox for more information.
