I am at wits end. First of all the printer works flawlessly from my iPhone 13 Mini. However, trying to print from my HP laptop is plagued by frequent errors. I have removed the printer and reinstalled, done everything HP Smart says to do, and yet the printer is constantly offline when attempting to print from the HP laptop. The newest error is out of paper.
Sometimes rebooting the wifi, laptop and cable modem works for a while. I am out of ideas. Why can't my HP products work together.

Hi @gary55477848,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand how frustrating it is when your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 works reliably from your iPhone but frequently shows as offline or reports an out-of-paper error when printing from your HP laptop.
Since printing works from your iPhone, let's focus on the connection and printer configuration on your laptop first.
1. Check the printer's status.
On your Windows laptop, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301, and open the print queue. Under the Printer menu, make sure Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline are not enabled if those options appear.
2. Check the paper settings.
Make sure paper is loaded correctly in the printer's tray. In the print settings on your laptop, verify that the selected paper size and type match the paper loaded in the printer.
3. Check the Wi-Fi connection.
Confirm that your laptop and printer are connected to the same local network. If the printer is connected to a different network or access point, printing may become unreliable.
4. Check the printer driver.
Since you have already removed and reinstalled the printer, the next step is to verify that Windows is using the correct driver for your printer.
You can find the available software and drivers on the official HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 support page.
To help narrow this down, could you please confirm:
- Which version of Windows is running on your HP laptop: Windows 10 or Windows 11?
- Is the printer connected to your Wi-Fi network, or is it connected to the laptop through USB?
- When the printer reports "Out of Paper," does the same message appear on the printer's control panel or only on the laptop?
These details will help us identify why printing from the laptop behaves differently from printing from your iPhone.
Best regards,

Thank you so much for the reply.
First of all, I printed this reply with no problem. I had shut down the printer over night.
I am running Windows 11 Home 25H2. The printer is on WiFi, on the same network as the laptop. The out of paper message was on the printer's control panel, I did not check to see if it was on the laptop. The driver is MS IPP Class Driver Type 4 - User Mode version 10.0.26100.9711
After the successful printing, and checking the Printer's status in settings I noticed the printer was listed twice. I removed one listing. I did not see options for Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline.
The frustrating part is it prints fine from the laptop, such as this morning and then stop working. And then start working at some other time. It never fails to print from the iPhone.
Thanks again, for your help. Oh, and tell the boss HP should never discontinue RPN calculators.

Hi @gary55477848,
Thank you for sharing those details.
It's helpful to know that your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 prints successfully from your Windows 11 laptop at times, while printing from your iPhone remains reliable. Removing the duplicate printer entry was also a useful step.
Since you're using the Microsoft IPP Class Driver and the printer intermittently reports an out-of-paper error on its control panel, let's narrow down whether the issue is related to the Windows printer configuration or the printer's network connection.
Could you please confirm two things?
- In Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301, and check whether the remaining printer entry shows an IP address or a WSD connection in its properties, if available.
- When the printer displays Out of Paper, does it recover after you cancel the job and send it again, or do you need to restart the printer before it will print?
In the meantime, since the printer is working intermittently, I would avoid reinstalling it again until we identify how Windows is connecting to it. The connection details and the behavior of the error will help determine the next step.
And thank you for the RPN calculator suggestion! Your feedback will be noted.
Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi

Good morning,
In Properties - Ports WSD is selected.
I did restart after getting the Out of paper error several times to no avail. This included rebooting the cable modem and router as well as laptop and printer.
The printer is working from the laptop again this morning. So far.
And land surveyors across the US still mourn for their HP 41-C calculators.

Hi @gary55477848,
Thank you for the update. It's good to hear that printing is working again, although I understand how frustrating it is when the issue keeps returning unpredictably.
Since your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 works reliably from your iPhone but intermittently fails from your Windows 11 laptop, and the printer is currently using a WSD port, I suggest checking whether the connection method is contributing to the problem.
When the issue returns, please note the printer's IP address from its network settings. You can then check whether the address changes between successful and unsuccessful printing attempts.
If the printer's IP address remains stable, one possible next step is to configure a standard TCP/IP port in Windows instead of WSD. However, since the printer is currently working, I would avoid changing the configuration until we have that information. We should also keep the working printer entry intact while troubleshooting.
If the printer's own control panel displays Out of Paper again despite paper being correctly loaded, please let us know whether the message clears on its own or persists after the failed job is cancelled. That distinction may help us determine whether the error is related to the print job or the printer itself.
And thank you for keeping the HP 41-C calculator legacy alive! I'll leave the RPN calculator advocacy to you and the land surveyors. 🙂
Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi
