Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have an HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw multi function printer.  When I power it on I get the HP & Energy Star logos on the printer's touch screen, but then it locks up and stays on that screen.  My MacBook Pro will see the printer (I am hardwired to it via a USB cable) and it will begin to print but locks up about half way trhrough sending the data from the computer to the printer.  Is there a way to reset the printer to it's factory defaults (first Birthday)?

Hi Audiomic,

I can provide some steps that might help resolve the issue.

1. Try resetting the printer. With the power on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer, then wait 60 seconds. Reconnect the power cord to the printer, and turn the power back on. Wait for the printer to initialize.

2.  If the issue persists, try downloading and installing the most current firmware. The most recent update is 20160525.  You can find the update here. Click Download, and then follow the instructions to install the update via USB.

3. If the update doesn't work, I recommend going to this HP forum thread and requesting that the support agent send you the instructions to perform an NVRAM reset.

This last step is the only way I know of to perform a factory reset if the screen is frozen.
