I have fought ever since I bought my printer to print half-sheets (8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches) in Tray 2.   Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I can't remember exactly at this point-since I last tried this two days ago-- but it seems I get an error message that says load paper in Tray 1, which is a manual feed tray.  I have the half-sheet paper in Tray 2.  I have set the physical guides to that paper size, and I have set the paper size (half sheet) and quality in the printer settings and in my document settings.  What am I doing wrong?

To assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

Have you tried making photocopies on the half-sized papers?

Which application are you trying to print from?

Meanwhile, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website. With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.
