@JfZ,
Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.
Let me jump in with a solution for this issue in place of my colleague as he is out of the office today.
This issue could occur if the firmware is not updated.
Please follow the link to update the firmware: Firmware Update Utility
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Greetings @JfZ,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I see you are facing a print quality issue while printing photos.
Don't worry, I will happy to help.
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own by calibrating the monitor.
Are you able to print documents fine?
Have you checked the paper settings before you print?
Recommend you to use the print preview feature before you print.
Try a different application to print, if possible.
Refer to this HP Article to understand the print settings while printing photos.
Have you tried to make a color copy on the printer? (This would let us know if the issue is with the printer or the software.)
Also, refer this HP Article for assistance in troubleshooting print quality issues.

Thank you Chimney for your help, Yes I have tried various software programs to pring from, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Pdf file, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft's Photoviewer, all with the same poor results on plain paper. However, as you suggested, I ran a photocopy of a print from my former printer and the copy came out splendidly, so it's all in the software settings.
Thank you JfZ

And the answer to the question "Do you check the printer settings before you Print" Always!!! When I had an Epson Inkjet printer I was able to tell the software I was using to allow to use the printer settings, that option does not seem available. The reason I went to HP Laser from Epson inkjet is because of the clogging of inkjets. However, they do seem to have a better printer driver in control of making images equivilant to WYSIWYG on my screen to the printer. Is that too much to ask of HP? I even printed from my Iphone and get the same negative results.. TOO Dark
Solution of proper settings or update of the software would be greatly appreciated. Best Buy says I have two weeks to take back the printer.. I so much want this HP color printer to print good quality photographs.
Thank you.

Overall the printer prints too dark, just a little, I have experimented with the various color profiles switching from Photoshop and printer managing color. Printer manageing color gives more vivid color, closer to the Reds and golds that are in my test photo, yet slightly darker than the calibrated monitor shows. I think I can live with it.
Thank you for your help
