HP LaserJet MFP M227fdw
Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to setup the digital fax option on this printer, but I do not have the feature showing on the printer's web interface, and also not on the printer's menu.

Do I need an analog phone line connected to the machine in order to have the option? I did install the full package: Full_Webpack-44.11.2775-LJM227-M231_UWWL_4_1_Full_Webpack and went through the steps to setup the fax feature, but no digital feature is available.
What I need is to receive digital faxes and save them on a computer's folder through the network.

Thank you,
Rob

Hello @TheMcLovin, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If you are trying to receive faxes digitally and automatically save them to a network folder on an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw, the missing Digital Fax / Fax to PC / Fax to Network Folder option is important to clarify.

Why the Digital Fax option is missing

The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw requires an analog telephone connection for its built-in fax function. Installing the full Windows software package does not add a network-based digital fax-receive feature to the printer.

The printer's fax hardware receives faxes through the telephone line connected to its fax port. The network connection can then be used for certain computer-based fax features, depending on the supported configuration, but Wi-Fi/Ethernet alone does not replace the analog fax line.

If your goal is to receive faxes and save them to a computer

  • First, connect a working telephone/fax line to the printer's LINE/1-LINE fax port and configure the fax settings.
  • Then check the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) for the available fax-receive options. Enter the printer's IP address in a web browser to open the EWS and look under the Fax settings.
  • If the M227fdw firmware/software configuration does not provide a Fax to PC or Fax to Network Folder option, installing the Full Webpack again will not create that feature. The available fax-receive methods are determined by the printer model and its supported firmware/features.

Important distinction

There are two different functions that are easy to confuse:

  • Receive fax: The printer receives a fax through its telephone/fax connection.
  • Digital Fax / Fax to PC / Fax to Network Folder: A supported printer can automatically forward a received fax electronically to a computer or network location.

Your requirement is specifically the second option, so the key question is whether the M227fdw supports that receive-to-network destination in its configuration.

What we recommend

  • Connect the analog telephone line to the printer's 1-LINE port.
  • Confirm that the printer's Fax function is enabled and configured.
  • Print or view the printer's fax configuration/report to confirm the fax hardware is working.
  • Open the printer's EWS using its IP address and check the Fax/Receive settings for any Fax to PC, Fax to Network Folder, or similar option.
  • If those options are completely absent from both the printer control panel and EWS, the feature is likely not supported in the current M227fdw configuration, rather than being missing because of the Windows driver installation.
