Laserjet 6p
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My old Laserjet 6p prinetr worked perfectly with my Windows 10 laptop until a couple of months ago.  Where can I get a driver to allow it to connect to the laptop again?

my pleasure- Windows 10 will also probably have a HP UPD in the driver store already loaded- some people are able to get these older model printers to work- in windows 10 type devices and printers in your search bar- open that control panel and select add printer- then look for the "printer I want is not listed" towards the bottom of that screen- follow the on screen prompt, but when it comes time to add the port- choose a "virtual USB port" (guessing you are hooking it up via usb or a parrallel to usb converter)

**oh, and just in case you moved the machine or are using a different USB port than before, make sure you are plugged into a USB 2.0 port (no blue plastic indicator inside the port) my best guess would be at a win10 update changed your USB port drivers- so hopefully just several attempts at reinstalling the printer will work

You will just have to try a variety of the HP universal print drivers- there is no support for windows 10 and that model.

HP UPD here

I'm sure that you are correct that a Windows 10 update must have changed the driver.  When I got the printer working the first time it only worked on one particular USB port and it was set up as a virtual port with a parallel to USB cable but still took ages to get it to work.  The HP Support Assistant app seemed to help that time but not now.

I tried to download 2 different universal drivers as you suggested earlier but neither has worked so far.  I will keep trying as you suggested and as I know from previous experience that it can take several attempts.

I really appreciate the help you have given me

Thanks

You were right to say to keep trying as I now have the old printer workign again.  It is a really good printer for small black and white documents so I am very happy not to be throwing it out!!

Thanks a million

Fantastic! I'm happy to hear you got it working and thanks for giving us an update. I still service the LJ 4,5,6's and 4100's etc- some of the printers are 20 years old and still running- the gold standard that modern day manufacturers should look up to.
