I've been having a recurring engine communication error. Whenever I get this, I pull the power and restart the printer and then it works for a while.
Looking at the even log on the printer I see the following errors:
55.3000 - Engine or formatter communication error
90.1101 - Engine cable connection issue
Not sure exactly what's causing it, but it's happened at least 4 times.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the printer was working fine?
- What is the operating system you are using?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the below steps and check whether the issue is resolved.
1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Remove USB cable, if present.
3. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
4. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
5. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you update the printer firmware following the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

The printer is currently working fine.
The primary operating system being used is Windows and all computers are connected over the network. The printer is connected via Ethernet.
I haven't made any changes to all computers.
I verified that the printer is on the latest version - 20171210.
Will have to try plugged directly into an outlet later, but it will be hard to verify that that's a solution because the error doesn't occur frequently.

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.
I highly recommend you try connecting the printer directly to the wall socket and check whether the issue is resolved as the error is related to the printer and computer communication.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
Good day!
