HP Laserjet 600 M601
Microsoft Windows XP

We have tried a number of different envelope brands, and we continue to have an issue with envelopes sealing shut as we run them through the printer. We've tried adjusting the humidity settings and the tray settings, but we haven't had much luck. Though saying the paper is extra thin makes seems to make the lightest seal.

Any tips would be appreciated!!!

Welcome to HP Support Forum. Have you read the following warning ?

To avoid jams or damage to the printer, do not print envelopes with clasps, windows, shiny surfaces, or coated linings. If you are printing with a LaserJet, do not use envelopes with self-stick adhesives other synthetic materials that are susceptible to heat.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Yes, these envelopes are not self-stick, and we had been printing on envelopes for a few years before the issue began.

I called customer support and they couldn't help me. Said I should take the printer to a local technician.

I managed to fix the issue on my own though, so if this helps anyone else, here's what I did (it was not intuitive).

On the printer, go to Home / Administration / General Settings / Print/Quality / Adjust Paper Types

Set the Print to Light

Set Humidity Mode to High

On your computer, in Properties/Advanced Settings, set the paper type to Light and Print Quality to 1200 Fast and select EconoMode

This worked, and I just figured it out by messing with the settings...

Thanks csinks....this worked for me - I was having the same problem out of nowhere, the envelopes started sealing going through the printer.

Thank you for your answer, it does seem like a very good method to correct this issue. However I do not understand where you need to go on the computer in order to complete the task.

Where exactly do you do this?

"On your computer, in Properties/Advanced Settings, set the paper type to Light and Print Quality to 1200 Fast and select EconoMode"

Is this done in the prinder properties of the unit or somewhere else?

Thank you!!!
