Hi @1Micky1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The Error 11 on your HP LaserJet M140w means the printer cannot recognize the toner cartridge. Since you mentioned it’s not an HP original cartridge, here’s what you need to know and do:

Why This Happens

  • HP printers use cartridge authentication to verify genuine HP supplies.
  • Non-HP cartridges often trigger Error 11 because the chip isn’t recognized.
  • Firmware updates can make older third-party chips incompatible.

Steps to Fix

  1. Power Reset
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then restart.

  2. Reseat Cartridge
    • Remove the toner, check for protective tape or debris on the chip.
    • Reinsert firmly until it clicks.

  3. Clean Contacts
    • Wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.

  4. Check Firmware
    • If you updated firmware recently, it may have blocked non-HP chips.
    • You can check the firmware status in the HP App or the printer settings.

  5. Try Another Cartridge
    • If possible, test with a genuine HP cartridge to confirm the printer works.
    • If the error clears, the issue is with the third-party cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
