officejet pro 8620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to find out if I can set my print to "Print to File" when I email a document via Eprint.

So, rather than the document print to paper, it would be saved to a network folder, similar to the "scan to network folder" option.

I am using an officejet pro 8620, firmware updated 1/2017

The idea is to have all of my receipts in one place. Not on a cloud, but in a specific network folder I keep for receipts. I want a folder full of pdfs when tax time comes, not a box full of emails where I have to download files then batch print.

I'm going to assume you are saying "No the officejet 8620 cannot do this."

That's all I needed.

Hi,

Sorry I can't work out what are you trying to do. You can ALWAYS save documents to network folder(s) using SAVE command from applications.

I thought I was pretty clear, but I'll try again...

Let's pretend...

I'm at a store buying supplies for my business. I take a picture of my receipt and send it Via email to my printer at home. The printer will print my picture on paper.

Is there a way to set these email prints to print to a file (as a PDF for example) to my network receipts folder, rather than to print to paper.

As of now, I email my receipt and when I get home I have to scan my print to my network folder and throw away the print.

It's a waste of paper, and an extra step for me.

Can this printer do that?

What you propose is a rather roundabout way of dealing with this. Why don't you just mail the picture and leave it at that? If you use mail that's configured with IMAP you can access this mail anywhere in the world.

But I suppose I have your reasons to want your pictures on a physical location outside of email. There are many kinds of solutions to arrive at this situation. I assume you take pictures with a smartphone? You can then use the option to share these pictures with your network or a cloud service like Dropbox. If you don't like to use the public cloud, you could use a personal cloud solution like Owncloud.

I'm aware of the existence of solutions where scanners scans files to mail. But these are more expensive devices and even with these you have to detach the pdf files yourself from the mail. (There might be more intelligent solutions I'm not aware of).

Sorry if I don't understand your use case correctly.

It seems that that is what you want to hear as you've set your mind upon a quite specific way of doing this. You don't seem to appreciate the concept of a personal cloud as it seems in that way you could achieve exactly what you require:

save your files to the network and setup a so-called 'watch folder' or 'hot folder' which process your pictures automatically and prints them to a pdf. You could use a solution like ActivePDF for that (http://documentation.activepdf.com/DocConverter/DocConverter_QuickStart/Content/c_config_dc/about_wa...)

But no, I don't think eprint can't be configured to do what you want.

Cheers,

SandoHP

edit: and yes, a cloud solution can be configured in such a way that you can mark your network folder as the destination that should be synched.

Hi,

How do you take the picture of your receipts ? Using a camera ? If from a camera (or from your phone) why you have to send to printer ? When send an email to the printer email address that means you WANT it to print, that's all.

I still have no idea what and why you have to do many steps to store copies of the receipts.

(a) Using camera (or phone): you can transfer/store images to any where you like.

(b) Using printer: you can keep your receipts when get home and scan to  your network storage as PDF files.

I'm looking for fewer steps. so, again thanks for trying to figure out my whys and not answering the question.

The answer is no, my HP 8620 will not do that. That is the scope of your concern. The rest is my business.

Your job is to answer the HP question. Thank you again.

As I said, question is answered. Do you just need to have the last word?
