Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I receive "Error A fatal error occured preventing product use" while trying to install the printer driver on a Windows 10 computer. This printer was purchased late in 2015. I have tried every driver since the first driver was released and none of them have worked on Windows 10. I have tried installing the printer driver while it is connected over wireless and USB.

Hi @Andrew8811,

There are other drivers you can try if you are having trouble downloading the software from the HP website.

Here are a few options to get drivers for your printer.

HP EasyStart

Windows driver for an HP printer

HP Universal Print Driver

If you are still experiencing installation issues after you have tried the above drivers, you will need to contact HP for further support.

Contact HP:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear

I hope this helps.

I utilized the www.hp.com/contacthp/ link and was connected with a service person who took control of my computer and got the printer working. They also fixed my second Windows 10 computer. This currently seems to be the only solution to the problem as the steps done in the remote control are not documented in the forum.

This is an easy fix...DO NOT download or try to install the 64-bit installer for any OS.  The TWAIN driver is 32-bit and will cause issues when trying to install.  Whether you are using Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit, always choose the 32-bit installer from the HP website and use that to install the MFP.  You will have no issues.

The reason for this is that a 64-bit TWAIN driver doesn't exist (for any mfp).  Good luck everyone.
