Officejet 7310
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have an HP Officejet 7310.

The error message "Scanner Failure      Turn Power Off then On" appears on the screen.

Unplugging the device & plugging it back in doesn't clear the message.

The device used to print, even though this message was always displayed, but it has decided not to print any longer.

We are not trying to scan anything, just print wirelessely from a laptop (which had previously printed through this printer).

I have re-downloaded the driver, and still can't print.

Any thoughts / help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for your help.  As the printer is out of warranty, I'm assuming there is nothing to be done other than buy a new printer.

Thanks again for your input.  It was very helpful to know which direction to go.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One Printer. I understand that you are getting scanner failure error message and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

  • Reset the printer.
  • Check the power connection.
  • Open the lid of the printer and check if the scanner light is moving across the scanner glass.

Click here for the document which you can refer.

Let me know how it goes.

I have unplugged the printer to reset it (as I know of no other way).  After plugging it back in, the scanner light turns on and seems to try to move across the bed, but does not.

Any other thoughts?

Thank your your time,
