MFP M281cdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I cannot seem to get this fixed .... Can print in USB mode, but not wirelessly.

Did Windows 10 upgrade from 8.1 to 10

Reconnected & reloaded HP Laser Jet MFP M281cdw software, and have not been able to get it to work wirelessly since.

Removed & reloaded SW several times, but not been able to get it to work on wireless printing.

Now its set up & working fine in USB connection mode.

Today, got into Tools in Printers for this device and found Modify Device to change from USB to wireless print connection type.

Followed instructions and completed all steps, and msg after said I was successful changing to wireless.

Closed dialogue box, opened document I wanted to print to test, and no print?

New error message appeared:    "Error printing on NP 179191D

                                                               The printer couldn't print 'doc'

                                                               Your HP Password has changed"

Yesterday, somehow I miss-entered the password and inverted part of it causing a change, and accidentally saved it.

I soon after discovered error and corrected it back immediately, but I keep getting this msg now when trying to print wirelessly.

Evidently its a HP password issue tied to the wireless printing aspect...?

Can't reach anyone at HP, and the Chat will not take me where I need to go.

How do I fix this to print  wirelessly again?

Would appreciate any assistance that anyone could provide.

Thanks,

Lfryklu

@Lfryklu,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to print wirelessly.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you restore the factory defaults on the printer and then connect the printer again to your wireless network.

Here is how it is done.

1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.

2. Scroll to and select the Service menu.

3. Scroll to and select Restore Defaults, and then touch OK.

The printer automatically restarts.

Once the printer is connected to your wireless network, root uninstall the printer following the below steps.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

Add the printer using IP address -

1. Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2. Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3. Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4. Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5. Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6. Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7. Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8. Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello,

Apologies, been away from printer for awhile to try your suggestions to reconnect to wireless operation.

Thank you - Appreciated your response & steps to follow, but insurmountable difficulties experienced today.

Got through to point of removing & installing software again I think successfully, but not wirelessly, & because of way system is connected, was not able to physically connect printer to router per instructed step.

Reason - Router is located on a different floor, & Ethernet wall plug is used to connect the computer.

Tried Advanced settings, & message was - Can't open printer home, or EWS page..?

Was given other connection options:

1 - Connect to router - No go - unable to get any printer connection by moving wall plug ether net wire from computer to printer

2 - Connect using WIFI Direct - followed steps & given messages - Accessed printer panel to get WIFI Direct Name & PW.

Entered those & message was Incorrect - option to use Security Key... tried using network name - no go - tried using password - no go..?

3 - Connect using USB cable - Removed Ethernet wire from printer & plugged back into computer.

Got pop up lower right hand corner - Launch App...ran & said Set Up Complete

Msg saying printer status is unknown..?

Tried to go into Printer Settings off of App menu, to go into Advanced settings to change connection type, but no response to click to select.

Luckily printer does print w/USB cable, but want it to work wirelessly across small office to different desk  - 5 feet apart.

All of this came about after upgrade from MS OS 8.1 to Windows 10

Been having difficulties reinstalling to operate wirelessly since then.

Can I get this back to work wirelessly again?

This was description of todays attempt, results & current status

Please help me get this working wirelessly

Thanks & best regards,

Larry - Lfryklu

@Lfryklu,

Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from this Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

Also, try using the HP Smart App and let me know if that helps. Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hp-smart/9wzdncrfhwlh
