Perhaps one or more of:

  • Printer or proper Driver is not selected in the job configuration (job setup).
  • Printer driver / software needs to be reinstalled - Windows Updates (and almost anything else) can break printer software.  If the proper software driver suddenly disappears, the job setup will try to find another destination.
  • Driver assignment needs to be corrected in Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver
  • Default Printer needs to be corrected

===============================

Printer - Full Solution / Full Driver Software

The full driver provides access to the full range of printer features and supports printing from other software (for example, Word).

Open

Set / Adjust the Operating System / version to Windows / Windows 11

The full driver is available in an "EasyStart" wrapper.

This method uses conducts a search for available printer software available for your printer.

-- Reminder --

This method requires that you select the "full" driver / solution when asked.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on Printer > Printer Properties > Tab Advanced

  • Driver:  Select the HP driver as opposed to the Microsoft / IPP class driver
  • Reprint later:  Select Keep all documents
  • All Jobs Default:  Printing Defaults

Windows - Default Printer

-- Windows --

If the "problem" surfaced directly after an update -- or possibly even if no updates were applied -- check the Default Printer and the Printer Properties Driver assignments -- ensure the settings are as expected and needed.

Preparation > Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers and scanners

Scroll down to section Printer preferences

Windows protected mode = "Set up"  (equals "not configured")

Default install printers using Windows Ready Print = OFF

and

Switch OFF Let Windows manage my default printer

Scroll up > Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Set as Default
