I have found that an administrator password was added to our printer. It could have come from our supplier that way or some "very helpful" employee may have set it. Either way I have tried all of the norms and nothing is working. It even asks for the password when I went to factory reset the printer. Can someone help me factory reset this M501dn?

I had posted the "Partial Clean" solution after checking the index of the service manual, but have determined that the M506/M527 models are where the Firmware changes to Future Smart and that option is available.
For the M501 use the instructions posted by: @Repairatrooper
I would try a Partial Clean, that would wipe out the operating Firmware and it would be automatically reloaded from the Repository, (Backup), on the next boot.
If my post resolves your issue please click the accepted as solution button under it.

You can even click both buttons. . .

The 501 series uses the Pro level firmware not Enterprise so there is no "partial clean" option. To reset factory settings from the control panel
Restore the factory-set defaults
Restore the factory-set defaults from a LCD control panel (M501)
1. On the printer control panel, press the OK button to open the menus.
2. Open the following menus:
● Service
● Restore Defaults
The printer automatically restarts.
If this does not solve your problem, post back and I can check for other options.
