I get the message "Failed Certificate Expired" when I attempt to print to my Color Laser Jet printer. It is connected with an Ethernet cable to my router.  (It had been printing normally until the time change happened on Sunday, November 2, 2025. I don't know if that had anything to do with the error but I'll include it anyway)

I googled the error message. The results suggested I should power off/power on the printer, power off/power on both printer and PC at the same time. Nothing has worked. I then tried to send my print job to my ePrint email address which has worked before. It failed.

BTW, After I set it up initially Chrome OS showed the printer's IP address as 192.168.1.77. However, this number changed to a bogus IP number with 224 in the field that should read 1, and 5 random numbers in the field that should read 77.. I tried changing it back to the original number within Chrome OS. It still generated the same "Failed Certificate Expired" error message.

Where do I start in clearing this problem?

Thanks for any help,

Michael

I wanted to add, I can't access the printer through the browser. It isn't found. Is there possibly a way to fix this problem by accessing the printer through its control display rather than through the browser (Chrome)?

Items like the security certificate cannot be updated from the control panel. The choices are the embedded web server or one of HP's management software packages like Web JetAdmin (free software) or Security Manager (purchase required). Typically you should be able to access the web server even with an expired certificate but you will likely need to acknowledge a warning pop-up in the browser.

Repairatrooper,

Thank you for responding., I was unable to address the printer directly from the browser. However, after changing the printer from ethernet access to Wi-Fi access, I was able to open Chrome browser and can see the printer now. There's still a problem.

Under the "Certificates" tab on the printer I have 4 choices:

1. Create a new self signed certificate Warning the operation will overwrite the currently installed certificate with a new self-signed certificate

2. Create a certificate request Create the certificate request that you will give to a certificate authority (CA) - this choice is already pre-chosen.

3. Import a certificate and private key

4.. Export the certificate

I'm assuming that I should choose either 1 or 2,

I chose option 2

. A file - Cerrificate.cer was created with the correct format and it appeared in my Downloads directory which I chose and clicked continue.

I tried to install this certificate but I received an error message saying the format was wrong.. The format matched what the previous screen said it should be.

It's good news that the WiFi network in my house can now access the printer. However, the certificate problem still exists..

Where should I go from here?

Thanks,

Michael
