I need help, suffering from periodic and unidentifiable problems.  My laserjet has worked for years with all my Apple products.  Suddenly about 45 days ago it started having problems.

Problems

- I could not figure out why my utilities would not connect nor would the printer print for the longest time.

- Now I have deduced and replicated the following, the printer queue hangs when printing PDFs at 21% complete transmission and then just sits there until failure.  It also hangs if I try and print a photo from the album, 11% complete transmission.   Once it fails and hangs, it won't print anything else.  If I then unplug the printer and restart it in hard fashion, it will print from Pages on my mac no problem.  It will not print as noted if I try a pdf first.

- Also, the HP utilities won't connect to printer or are terribly glitchy.  They usually just hang up with the colorful apple swirl circle.

- I have tried to reinstall the printer on my mac along with utilities, I was successful but then they quit working.

Need help, frustrated with what was a great working product.

Hi @kruegra1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "cannot print from computer" issue.

How is the printer connected to the computer USB or wireless?

Meanwhile, it sounds like an issue with the printer software and driver installed on your Mac

Try the steps below to resolve the issue :

-->Open Finder and click Applications

--> Move HP Folder to Trash and then clear the Trash.

-->Open Finder then click Go and Click Home.

--> Click View then Click Show View Options. Check the box Show Library Folder.

The change is instantaneous and the Library folder will immediately become visible.

--> Open Library and Open Printers, move the printer to Trash and clear the Trash.

-->Download and install the software and drivers available here.

-->If you are prompted for a printer connection type, select the appropriate one

-->On the Install screen, make sure HP Scan or HP Easy Scan is selected if your printer has a scanner to enable full scan functionality.

--> When you are prompted to add the printer to the printer queue, check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

-->If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

-->Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

--> Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select your printer name in the Use menu on the Add screen

--> Return to the HP installer to complete the installation.

-->Try to print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

sorry for delay.   Ok I did the sequence.  The link you sent had installed something but no dialog boxes for scanner etc, nothing happened.  So I assume you meant to download driver for my printer model MFP M125nw, see screen screen shot.  I downloaded driver and it installed successfully, see screen shot.  Then installed the HP Easy start, as well, and it was fine.  Then tried to print test page and poof, locks up at 31%.  After a while it flashes some sore of feedback (to quick to see it) and then pauses the printer.    After I unpause printer, it just seems to lose the file entirely and empties the queue.  Nothing prints.

*****  If I unplug printer, and plug it in,  and take queue off pause, suddenly it prints the page.   ****

Let's try and add the printer using Apple Airprint-

Add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

So I did the instructions.  AirPrint was active from what I can tell as this process was done once before, AirPrint was there and defaulted.

However I tried printing from my iPad, says "connecting to printer" and nothing happens.  If I try and print from my MacBook, it printed one item completely, but then hung on this.  Nothing else prints.  It seems to be the printer is choking on different print jobs and then closing out the job.  It will then hang and nothing else prints thereafter.

Thanks for all the help by the way.   One more note before I proceed, I have an old Windows laptop, I'm talking 8-10 years old, I happened to figure trying printing from that, it appears to print flawlessly, no delay, no problem.  Whatever the problem is, it appears to be relegated to Apple products, glitchy with my MacBook and failing from the iPads.

Should I still proceed with your process?

HP Recommended

Please go ahead and try the suggested steps and this is a driver related issue.

What happens when you try and print from your Ipad's?

Have you installed the HP Smart App on your Ipad?

HP Recommended

Most of the time on the iPads, it brings up the the dialog and hangs.   The HP Smart app is not installed on the iPads.

This problem seemed to be fairly sudden, everything worked then one day I started having problems.

Finished first step.

iPad

- as note in previous, it just said connecting to printer

on the MacBook Pro

- Won't print a jpg.  If I have a picture, jpg even, I open it, and try to print, it hangs

- I can a print a pdf now, but when the printer is finished the queue shows the following, subsequent printing just sits in queue.

Will attempt 2nd step.
