My NEW LaserJet Pro MFP 3301fdw failed within a month of my purchase.  The error message was that the paper tray was empty.  It was not.  It also would not even accept the manual feed through 'Tray 1'.  I had been using the printer for a couple of weeks when this error occurred.  After hp support determined that it was not a user issue (after a 1.5 hour phone and remote access support session), they stated that the entire unit had to be replaced.  What arrived was a refurbished unit.

I purposely paid more in good faith for a New unit due to past poor experiences with refurbished units.  I do not need to spend the time or resources discovering someone else's problems.  HP is NOT showing 'good faith' in return.

If this is the standard method of warranty replacement (and it apparently is), then HP should owe me the difference in price between the new unit and a refurbished unit.  Otherwise, it is essentially a bait and switch technique, and amounts to THEFT on HP's part.

I have been a HP loyalist over the years because I appreciate Quality, Reliability and Value.  In this case, I received NONE of these.  I will have to reconsider purchasing products in the future from a company that is willing to cheat it's loyal customers this way.  I certainly will not recommend HP to others.

HP is clearly no longer the high quality company that it once was under Bill and Dave.

Sadly the fine print of warranties states that this may happen. Hindsight but the best course of action if it fails in under 30 days is return it and repurchase if the vendor will not replace with new.
