Hi Folks,
I have a dilema with this printer. It's been a great unit I recieved from my employed when they closed an office. As it is just home use, it has only done 20,000 pages. The print quality was nice and we like having a scanner available so we've been getting good use out of it.
As you might expect, it ran low on toner, so we brought a genuine set of toners @ $385 only 6 months later, they were low again.
We cant affort to spend $770 /yr on toner, so we opted for the "compatiable" cartridges. 2 months later, the colors seem to mis-align and blur into each other.
So we phoned a service center that said they wont look at it if we have non-genuine cartridges in it.
So, we either throw the printer out and buy something else, or we find a way of servicing it and using the cheaper cartridges.
Are the compatible cartidges really that bad ? if so, why do people still sell them ? and has anyone claimed the warranty on them ?

HP Printers can actually detects if your using conterfeit/refilled cartrdige. It may work at times, but u have to change it everytime that the printer detects counterfeit and ofcourse, conterfeits is the main cause of the print mechanism of printers.

Thankyou for the reply.
It answers the question in a sense, which is that the genuine cartridges mean this particular unit is too expensive per page.
There is no escaping this fact, so there is no point in us servicving it, we will put it out on the street corner and see if someone will take it.
It's a shame as it was a nice printer when it worked.
