I have a 1202w that at some point I added a EWS password. Im trying to setup this printer on a new network and have followed all the available options and setup but no matter what the setup stops and asks for the custom password. At one point i had the reset procedure but for some reason all the responses in the HP support forums default to sending the users with the same issues a private message instead of posting the actual reset procedure.  So im looking for the factory reset procedure, powering down and holding resume while powering up did not work and the same for holding cancel and the network button. Ive scoured what i can and found some info for EWS reset but it does not have the this printer model listed.

Thank you in advance

Hi @atomscollide,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand you're unable to access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) because of a previously configured custom password, and you're looking for a way to restore the printer to its factory defaults.

For the HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1202w, you can perform a hardware reset using the following steps:

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults:

  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button simultaneously.

  3. While continuing to hold both buttons, turn the printer on.

  4. Keep holding the buttons until the Attention and Ready lights blink together.

  5. Release the buttons and allow the printer to complete the reset and restart.

After the Reset:

  • The custom EWS password should be cleared.

  • Network settings will be restored to their default values.

  • The wireless light should begin blinking, indicating that the printer is ready for wireless setup.

  • Use the HP APP or the printer setup utility to reconnect the printer to your new Wi‑Fi network.

If the printer continues to prompt for the old password after completing the reset, please let us know, and we'll provide additional troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day!

Hi Jerry thanks for the response. Unfortunately this method did not reset the password as i already tried this. If im not mistaken the procedure im looking for is what is needed to reset the NVRAM. I had it saved at one point but I could not find the documentation with this process.

Thank you for your response.

Restore the factory-set defaults Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the printer and network settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count.

To restore the printer to the factory-default settings, follow these steps.

CAUTION: Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults.

1. Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS). For more information, see the Accessing and Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) section of this User Guide.

2. On the System tab, click Service.

3. In the Restore Defaults area, click the Restore defaults button. The printer automatically restarts.

Hi Jerry ,

i cannot access the EWS since there is a password as mentioned in the original post that i do not have.

seems the NVRAM reset is what i need to truly reset this printer to defaults.

NVRAM Reset Procedure

Turn off the printer completely.

  • Press and hold the green Resume button (or the Resume/Cancel button) on the control panel.

  • While holding down the Resume button, turn on the printer with the power button.

  • Keep holding the Resume button for roughly 20 seconds until the Attention light (the amber/orange exclamation mark indicator) turns on or the lights begin to flash.

  • Release the button. The printer will automatically perform an internal NVRAM wipe and reboot to default factory settings.

This did not work for me either. holding the resume button , or holding both the resume and cancel. this just made the blue wireless indicator flash no matter which combination held during a restart. I tried both leaving the power cord plugged in and using the power button to turn off and on and also tried just pulling the cord from the receptacle and plugging it in during the button press/hold process.
