Printer was working perfectly, and an error message popped up #10.92.03 "Cartridges Not Engaged." and "Open and C;lose Front Door."

I cleaned all of the toner cartridge contacts with alcohol as well as the ones in the printer they contact. All of the nylon gears seem free (just moved them a tooth of so to make sure), and all cartridges are fully inserted.

I hesitate to buy a whole new set of cartridges in case it's the printer that is defective rather than just a cartridge so we don't end up with a set of cartridges for a printer we will no longer have.

Is there any procedure I could use to troubleshoot? To have the printer services I was quoted more than the cost of a refurbished replacement and the shop said they could not guarantee they could fix it because it is so old (10 years).

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Bob

Most common cause of this error on this model of printer is broken cartridge retainer locks. If you remove all the cartridges and close the door slowly you will see the locks drop down, there are locks on both sides. If you do not see a lock on both sides of each cartridge then one is broken and prevents the cartridge from seating properly. Sometimes if you lift the broken part out of the way while inserting the cartridge you can get the printer to work.
