470fnw Laserjet
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I use a HP Laserject 470fnw in my home office.  I have multiple specialized print options programmed into the printer but have to scroll through 10 different preinstalled default printer preferences.  What's worse is that the preferences I created get mixed in with the default printer preferences so I have to hunt for the specific print command I want.  I also want to make sure my staff, when I start adding them in the near future once this flu issue is done, will stick with the print commands I create as this cuts down on waste when printing specific jobs.

Is there any way to delete some - if not all - of the preinstalled default printer preferences on this and other HP printers so I can stick solely with the preferences I create?

Are you talking about printing shortcuts? If so, you can delete any shortcut except the one labelled "default".

On your computer, go to control panel>devices and printers> and then right click on your printer icon and select "printer properties" from the drop down menu. There are two places you can edit:

1. Printer Preferences: deleting the short cuts here will delete them for the currently logged in users only.

2. Click the "advanced tab" and then printing defaults, this should edit the shortcuts for any users logged into this PC.

Unfortunately the order cannot be changed, at least not from the interface, I never rule out that someone has gone deeper into areas like the registry of the computer to change things but I would never advise that.

No matter what route I take to get to the printer's shortcuts, the 10 default print shortcuts preloaded have the "delete" box grayed out so they cannot be deleted.  So default print shortcuts like "Snapshot Photos", "Glossy/Presentation", "Transparencies" (which I think stopped being used by most civilized people after 1998), etc. cannot be removed even though I'll never use them and they're just crowding up the selections when I add in the 8 - 10 of special shortcuts I regularly use.

Anyone else have any ideas on how to remove them?
