Bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw a few months ago and straight out the box the print quality has been very poor with very faded images and text.  After trying all the troubleshooting I can find - update firmware, Clean fuser, change cartridges, and more i am yet to resolve this issue.  Intend to contact HP support by tomorrow however I am fielding my issue in this community to see if anyone has had a similar issue with this model and what they would have done.  Appreciate any worthwhile assistance.

Hi @GlenSKN

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details of your experience. Since the print quality has been poor from the start, let’s go through a structured set of checks and adjustments that can help improve the output on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw:

Check Print Settings in Windows

  • Open the document you are printing and go to Print > Printer Properties.
  • Ensure the Print Quality is set to "Best" or "Normal" rather than "Draft."
  • Confirm the Paper Type matches the paper loaded (e.g., Plain, Glossy, Heavy). Incorrect settings can cause faded prints.

Run Cleaning and Calibration Routines

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Service > Cleaning Page.
  • Print the cleaning page to remove excess toner and debris.
  • Then go to Setup > Service > Color Calibration and run the calibration. This aligns the toner cartridges for optimal color density.

Check Toner Cartridges and Installation

  • Remove each toner cartridge and gently shake it side to side to redistribute toner.
  • Reinstall them securely, ensuring the protective seals were fully removed when first installed.
  • Verify none of the cartridges are low or defective by checking the printer’s Supplies Status.

Inspect Paper and Environment

  • Use high-quality paper recommended for laser printers.
  • Avoid damp or curled paper, as this can affect toner adhesion.
  • Ensure the printer is in a clean, dry environment with stable temperature.

Update Printer Settings via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Reports > Print Quality Page. Review the test patterns for streaks or faded areas.
  • If issues are visible, repeat the cleaning and calibration steps.

Firmware and Driver Confirmation

  • Confirm the printer firmware is up to date.
  • In Windows, check that the correct driver is installed (not a generic driver). Go to Devices and Printers > Printer Properties > Advanced and ensure the driver name matches your model.

By carefully following these steps, you should see a noticeable improvement in print quality. If the issue persists after calibration and cleaning, documenting the test pages will be helpful when you contact support, as they provide clear evidence of the print behavior.
