Hello,

I have a problem with my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw. I get the message "paper jam in tray 1", but there is no stuck paper. I checked the whole printer (all Paper Paths). Not even a little piece of paper.

By the way, I never used tray 1.

The wheels and rolls are looking fine. Maybe a sensor is dusty? But which could be the problematic sensors, and where are they located?

Regards

Joe

It would be either Switch 5, (SW5), or Sensor 665, (SR665).

They would be in the feed path about where the drawing shows them.

Unfortunately the Repair Manual and CPMD, (Control Panel Message Document), are of no help in locating the parts.

I work for an Authorized Service Provider so I have access to manuals, but cannot share them.

For Models where the first Number in the Model is below 3 Warranty Repair in the field was not supported so the documentation is not as detailed as on some other models, (If your machine had failed in warranty HP would have replaced it and the old machine would have been shipped to a repair center).

Unfortunately, I no longer have a warranty. That's why I want to repair it myself.

Thanks, but I know these Videos. These do not help me with my problem. As I have written, its a problem with the sensors and I only want to know which and where they are.

As mentioned the picture you found shows the approximate location on the sensors.

The picture is a side view of the printer base, the front is on the right.

so, you mean that the sensor is on the right side? How does it look like? Here two pics from the bottom of the printer. The top of the image is the right side.

The sensor is probably not on the right side, the view is of the right side.

If you drew a line from left to right the part would be somewhere along the line.

@SHThompson sorry to butt in but I have a question that might help narrow this down.

When do you get the error? Do you get the error as soon as you start up or does it pop up once you try to print something. If it shows up on startup, then there is a sensor that is stuck in tripped mode. If the error only shows when you send a print job then a sensor is not being tripped. The quality of optical sensors HP has used in the past decade are poor compared to the years before. On other similar models I have had issues with the sensor that would correlate with S665 failing with similar Tray 1 jam error messages.

The error appears when I start up. So its really a sensor problem. The question is which sensor and where to find. I dont know how this thing look like.
