I installed aftermarket toner cartridges and the printer would not print at all. I removed them and installed original HP toners, but the printer still won’t print.

The printer acts as if the aftermarket toners are still installed. When I send a print job, it makes noise like it’s about to print, then stops after 1–2 seconds with no error message.

No error codes appear on the screen.

Looking for guidance on how to reset the toner system or get the printer to recognize the genuine HP cartridges.

I had a customer have their printer destroyed by 3rd party cartridges. The cyan drum was so tight it sheared off part of the drive mechanism. Putting oem toners in only produced very bad noises.

If that is what has happened in your case go after the seller of the 3rd party cartridges.

Hi Repairatrooper,
I understand that aftermarket toners can sometimes cause issues, but in my case they did not. I’ve been able to print the supply report and also print from my cell phone to the printer, so I’m confident this is not a mechanical problem.

At this point, I believe the issue is related to the printer’s firmware. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers with no change, and I also restored the printer to factory defaults, but the problem remains.

Is there a way to downgrade the firmware, or install a fresh and fully updated firmware manually?

Thank you for your help.

If you can print from a cellphone, it is less likely a firmware issue and more likely a corrupted driver or print job on your computer.  Without knowing what type of computer operating system you are using it is impossible to be more explicit.

Got it, I am using an HP 14" laptop Pavilion with windows 11 and the printer and computer are connected wirelessly. It has been like this always, should I connect it with a wire?
