Never having any problem in fixing and unplugging HP 2840/2820/2550/2500/1500.... not really know what going wrong.
Not having a printer beside me but having the scanner left before.
I'll post the picture of the scanner and hope it'll help.

Thank you for your reply and pictures. I finally solved my problem in disconnecting the wires.
By working a sharp pointed tool into the the two open holes on each end of the connector,
I was finally able to work it loose. I had tried this many time before posting my plea for
help but evidently was not aggressive enough. I now understand how to disconnect the
wires.

Okay...I have successfully removed the top plate.
Is it necessary to remove the carousel in order to align the gears?
If so, how does one align the gears??
On page 203 of the Service Manual (line 3) it says...
"If the gears are not aligned correctly, locate the marks on the gears and realign the gears."
The marks on my printer do not line up. See attached photos.
