HP ColorLaserJet MFP M278-M281 crooked scans

I have a HP ColorLaserJet MFP M278-M281 with a low page count that prints and copies just fine but all scans come out crooked.  This is the same if I use either the document feeder or flatbed scanner.  The distortion is not uniform (it is more at the bottom of the page than top) so I cannot use the rotate function to fix it.

I have run HP Print and Scan Doctor.  That fails to identify any issue although when I did first run it, it did identify that a newer software version was available and I downloaded and installed that - no change.  The other thing is that the Print and Scan Doctor would not find the Network printer but luckily I had originally installed it as a Shared Wireless printer (not networked) and it found that one ok instead.

Has anyone any ideas please?

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
