HP LJ MFP283fdw ABRUPTLY STOPPED PRINTING IN COLOR. COULD THIS BE AN HP FIRMWEAR UPDATE FIX.  i have updated print driver, firmwear, changed C,M,Y TONER CARTRIDGES & TRIED USB AND NETWORK PRINTER CONNECTIONS.  NO COLOR FROM NUMEROUS W11 SOFTWARE PROGRAMS AND NO COLOR ON TEST PAGES OR ANY OTHER PRINTER DREATED REPORTS OR TEST PAGES.  EVERYTHING WORKS FLAWLESSLY EXCEPT NOCOLOR PRINTING.  I AM USING NON-HP TONER CARTRIDGES THAT HAVE WORKED JUST FINE FOR OVER TWO YEARS.  SCANNING WORKS FINE BUT COPIES DO NOT PRINT IN COLOR.  SINCE HAVE 90% LEFT ON PRESENT CARTRIDGES AND ANOTHER COMPLETE SET THAT WERE TEST WITH SAME "NO COLOR" RESULT.  HAS ANYONE  ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLWM?  HELP!!

Hi @TUN7842,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand how  it must be to suddenly lose color printing when everything else on your HP LaserJet MFP M283fdw is working smoothly.

Thank you for already trying so many steps, updating drivers and firmware, swapping toner cartridges, and testing both USB and network connections. That really helps narrow things down.

Here are a few additional  steps you can try:

  1. Check printer settings: On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup → Service → Restore Defaults. Sometimes a reset clears out hidden configuration issues.
  2. Run diagnostics: From the printer menu, print a Color Calibration or Diagnostics Page. If those pages also come out in black & white, it points to a hardware or firmware-level issue.
  3. Verify driver settings: In Windows 11, open Printers & Scanners → HP M283fdw → Printing Preferences. Ensure “Print in Grayscale” is not selected.
  4. Test with HP cartridges: Since your using a  non-HP cartridge please note When using non-HP cartridges in an HP printer, you may encounter error messages, as HP printers onfigured to use only genuine cartridges.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a  hardware  related to toner recognition.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
