"Scanner Error 13" continues to display on the printer screen during initialization.  The printer is connected to a PC via USB.  The printer will print when requested by the PC and wirelessly.  I've tried turning off and back on several times with no success.  I've tried unplugging the printer for greater than a minute with no success.  The printer is plugged directly into an outlet and not to the surge protector.  This has happened several times in the past, and I've had to remove all printer programming on PC, reinstall the firmware on the printer, and reinstall the software on the PC to get it to work.  Is there a simpler way to clear this error?

When you switch the machine on does the scanner move and the light comes on?If this does work i would remove the glass and clean both sides of the glass as to remove all residue.Clean the scanner assembly and refit the glass.Try the scanner and see if problem is resolved.

The scanner moves, but doesn’t travel any distance.  Its movement is more like shuttering (moving back and forth rapidly). Also, the scanner light does not illuminate.

Well, I just turned it off and turned it on again, and this time, I lifted the scanner cover while it initialized to watch the scanner movement and to see if the light would lite up.  The scanner moved and did not have that shuttering affect, and the light illuminated.  I lowered the lid to allow the scanner to self calibrate, and now it seems that everything is working.  After several days of turning off and repowering back on, it has finally decided to work, and this time, I powered it down and did not wait any time before powering it back up.

Please let me know if there is a remedy for correcting this issue other than the multiple iterations of turning it off and back on.  Hopefully the software engineers can develop a new firmware that will alleviate this issue.

Thanks for taking time to reply!

Well, I'm back again with the same issue.  The Scanner Error 13 has come back.  It seams to come back when trying to copy a document using only the printer.  When the printer did work, I had success using the scanning software on the PC.

When turning the printer off and on as suggested by the screen, the cartridge shutters back and forth and the light does not alluminate.  Then the Scanner Error 13 displays again.

Previously, I was able to turn it off and on multiple times (~50 times) and the error went away and the printer initialized correctly.  This is a relatively new printer (just over one year old) with very little usage (in-home use).  Am I going to have to buy another printer, or will HP do something to help me out.

Thanks
